The Office of Global Engagement recognized the recipients of the International Student Ambassador Service Award, Laurette Kirstein Scholarship for International Students, and Chicago Consular Corps Professional Development Award on April 22. Neal McCrillis, UIC Vice Provost for Global Engagement; Marie Lynn Miranda, UIC Chancellor; and Ambassador Reyna Torres, Consul General of Mexico in Chicago and Dean of the Chicago Consular Corps honored the awardees at this International Students Award Ceremony.
International Student Ambassador Service Award
The ISASA honors international students attending UIC on an international student visa and have made an outstanding contribution to the University through campus and/or community service, particularly by contributing to greater knowledge and understanding across our diverse national cultures.
The 2024 ISASA winners are Aryaman Narang and Elane de Menezes.
Laurette Kirstein Scholarship for International Students
This scholarship was created through a gift from Professor Kirstein’s estate to provide scholarship support for UIC international students demonstrating academic excellence and a fierce determination to achieve their goals.
The scholarship recipients are Syed Aun Abbas, Matias E Salazar Ismodes, Ayse Elif Kesaf, Artem Larin, Hannan Latif, Bhaskar Misra, Olufunmilola Oyelola, and Andrea Cespedes Zablah. They represent Canada, India, Pakistan, Peru, Spain, Turkey, and Ukraine.
Chicago Consular Corps Professional Development Award
The Chicago Consular Corps is comprised of Chicago-based Consulates, Consulates General and Honorary Consulates. This award honors the Corps’ commitment to education and cultural exchanges that foster international understanding and support the academic and professional development of UIC international students.
Fifteen students from nine countries received the 2024 CCC Professional Development Award:
