If you are an employee traveling on UIC-business, you are encouraged to enroll in the Gallagher insurance through the ITS enrollment portal. The cost will be covered for UIC-related travel.

If you are not traveling on UIC-business or have a non-UIC employee traveling with you while on UIC-business, you can also obtain comprehensive medical through the Gallagher company which has a personal travel product available. Please visit gallagherstudent.com for more information.

Yes, you do need to enroll in travel insurance, and you will be covered for those days.

No, this insurance does not cover flight cancellations, lost luggage, or car insurance. If you wish to obtain these, check with your air carrier or credit card company.

Any time you or your unit hosts an international visitor, no matter the length of stay, you must notify the Office of Global Engagement by filling out the international visitors form.

Why are we asking for this information? As part of UIC’s export control compliance program, UIC performs restricted party screenings using the web-based screening tool Descartes’ Visual Compliance Research Edition to ensure UIC is not engaging in transactions with individuals, companies, institutions and other organizations, whose U.S. export privileges have been blocked, restricted, or revoked unless the transactions are authorized by the listing government agency. Your responses on the form will also help us advise you on immigration matters such as visa sponsorship assistance and any required check-in with the Office of International Services (e.g., visits longer than one day require virtual check-in), as well as determine any other forms of support that might be necessary.

1. Before making any concrete plans for an agreement that involves international activities, contact the Office of Global Engagement at oge@uic.edu to schedule a consultation.
   1. Some activities may not require an agreement, or you may be at a stage where an agreement is premature.
   2. If, during the consultation, it is determined an agreement is necessary, Global Engagement staff will guide you through the next steps, including the appropriate agreement template (approved by University of Illinois’ General Counsel) to share with the partnering entity.
2. Next, review the International Collaborations Policy to be certain what you are considering adheres to university policy.
3. Finally, review the process for submitting an international affiliation agreement and remain in contact with Global Engagement staff throughout the process.

The Office of Global Engagement encompasses study abroad, global relations (including international partnerships), international services, intensive English, and graduate international student recruitment.

UIC Global is a partnership between UIC and Shorelight Education to recruit and admit qualified undergraduate students and provide support and language services to enable them to be successful with the ultimate goal of full matriculation in degree-seeking UIC programs.

In 2020 UIC adopted a campus-wide policy requiring all academic programs abroad to be approved in advance by UIC. Faculty, staff, or units seeking to develop a study abroad program must submit a proposal that has been approved by their unit and college (or equivalent) to the Office of Global Engagement’s Study Abroad Office. The Study Abroad Office will coordinate the review of new study abroad program proposals and the periodic review of existing programs. The Office of International Services is your partner is coordinating support for international students at UIC. They can help identify resources and discuss options within the context of immigration status.

The Tutorium in Intensive English provides supplemental language classes, tutoring, and editing services for English language learners.

The Office of International Services supports international students through all aspects of life as a student at UIC and are always a good first point of contact.

Campus Housing provides a variety of long and short term housing options on-campus, including the International Perspectives LLC. Commuter and Off-Campus Life maintains an off-campus housing listing and is available to advise students through the process of securing an apartment. Student Legal Services can assist current students with legal issues pertaining to rental and landlord agreements.

The Writing Center provides individual writing support for current UIC students. If the student is not familiar with the Writing Center, it can be helpful to remind them that the service is free and show them how to get connected.

The Tutorium in Intensive English provides one-on-one tutoring and editing services by teachers who specialize in teaching English to speakers of other languages.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Diversity and Office of Global Engagement offers a regular faculty workshop on supporting International Students as part of their “Inclusive Classroom” Initiative.
